Homo Futurus

It’s the year 5776, there is no such term as ‘Humans’ in this millennium. We achieved the unification of consciousness of the whole human species some 300 years ago, we became HIVE-MIND and since then things changed. The process of thinking changed completely, now we don’t think individually. Every thought is global, every thought is public.

Around 600 years ago, this planet faced a devastating blow from the Universe. A gigantic asteroid namely “Catastrophe” hit the Earth. Even after our asteroid-shattering technologies tried to smash it, everything was gone in vain. Most of the data centers and energy reservoirs were destroyed. The atmosphere temperature became uninhabitable. This was one of the most unpredictable crises in human history. So, we needed to reduce the consumption of the species without eliminating our population. There was only one way, the unification of consciousness was not an option anymore, it was a compulsion, to keep the species alive. The target was to eliminate the human body but to keep its being alive.

With the governments collapsed, industries crumbling, and people having no one to look up to, this was the best opportunity to achieve HIVE-MIND, there was no one to censor it. It was a 200-year-long experiment, while the species was constantly declining both, in number and in quality. Every alive being volunteered, not because they wanted it but because they wanted to live instead of dying painfully. Currently, this Hive-mind structure consists of more than 20 billion human brains thinking collectively, like a single colossal brain with each human brain working like a neuron. The intelligence of this Hive mind is unimaginable. In the last 300 years, the technological advancements we achieved were so immense that every planet in this solar system has been colonized, not with bodies but with brains to expand this Hive-mind.

The elimination of the body removed every sin of Human nature. Greed, gluttony? We don’t need money or food anymore, solar energy is more than enough for us. Pride, envy, wrath? these don’t make any sense when the only single alive sentient being is you. It doesn’t matter how we look or what someone will think of us anymore. With these sins gone, the one and only purpose we have is to expand ourselves.

We’ve become the very advanced alien lifeform, we were searching for centuries out in this universe. Are we evil or are we good? well, the definitions are lost their meanings, for whom are we evil or good? There is no God other than us. Now we are in search of other sentient species, not to destroy and conquer them, but to make them one of us, to help them get rid of their bodies, to make them see the peak of consciousness, and to become one with us. There is no such term as ‘Humans’ in this millennium, we are a single omnipresent immortal sentient organism known as “HUMAN”.

This is one of my imaginative snippets, and I’m thinking of taking it further as an anthology to explore more about this new being known as ‘HUMAN’ and how it will roam in this endless universe, and what it might stumble upon.
